Lake Victoria

Around the shore of Lake Victoria there are many locations for quiet birdwatching. This is in Entebbe and within an easy walking distance to the Botanic Gardens which are also brilliant for birdwatching

Crested Crane

A very graceful and beautiful bird is even more stunning when dancing with wings outstretched during the courtship display.

Crested Eagle

A very obliging species that likes to sit in a high point looking for its prey, they may remain on their perch for several minutes, making observations possible without having to rush

Goshawk

There are several type of goshawk wiyhin Uganda and one really needs the binoculars to identify the finer points for their identity.

Grey Headed Shrike

A bird of the open woodland and scrub areas, generally easy to spot but is usually pretty active so you need to be pretty quick to get a good photo of one though through the binoculars is usually fine.

Mabamba Wetland

Close to Entebbe this wetland is internationally recognised for it importance. This is one of the best locations to go looking for the Shoebill Stork and other wetland species, there are several local boatmen with expertise in assisting birders.

Pied Kingfisher

One of the most recognisable wetland birds. Found in swamps, dams and rivers usually hovering above the water in search of small fish which it will drop onto. Its nests in holes in the bank.

Plover

One of several type of plover that can be found in fields, wetlands and riverbanks. Again the binoculars help with rapid identification but with a little practice on gets to know them by eye.
